In another post we have already told you in general terms what the Kaptiva Training Methodology consists of. However, there is an intrinsic component in which we are especially involved. The importance of psychology in the Kaptiva Method lies in the mental wellbeing of our kids.
Although it is everyone’s role to generate a healthy environment, at Kaptiva Sports Academy there is a specialised psychology team that attends to our boys. In this way, we always attend to their problems on an individual basis.
Good mental health to perform in the field
When we suffer from anxiety, or have problems running around in our heads, we find it hard to concentrate. And if our main activity is sport, it is very difficult to perform well on the field.
To avoid this, the psychology team has regular sessions with the kids at Kaptiva Sports Academy. Scheduling concrete spaces to talk helps the youngsters to improve, to express themselves and to trust.
Thanks to this dialogue between the two parties we also learn from the boys. After each session, we learn what each person is like, their context and their problems. This also helps us to be able to deal with these obstacles better each day than the day before.
There must be coordination between psychologists, coaches and tutors.
As mentioned before, developing in a healthy environment depends on everyone. Psychologists are the first contact to solve problems and help to understand them. But coaches and tutors also have their responsibility.
Sometimes, some problems do not have an easy solution, but we can help to create and use tools to cope with them better. That is why our tutors and coaches strive to educate and teach values without falling into unfounded methods.
All three parts are coordinated so that each of our children fits well in the environment. And, to date, they have all shown themselves to be empathetic and to help each other in difficult situations. That complicity and trust is what we also seek to generate.
Confidence on and off the field
As mentioned in our description of the Kaptiva method, trust between players and coaches is fundamental. Questions are generated on the field so that they can solve the exercises by themselves.
In the same way, the tools we provide them with in the psychology sessions help them to face other types of problems and have better mental health. Many times we are obsessed with solving things in one way when there are a thousand other simpler ways to do it. That is our goal.
All of us at some point are in a slump and simply need someone to listen to us. That’s another purpose, to be a pillar of support for them, so they can let off steam and focus on their studies and enjoy football.
That’s why we stress so much the importance of psychology in the Kaptiva Method. Without it, we would be a three-legged table. With psychology, Kaptiva Sports and Kaptiva Sports Academy are two strong unbreakable pillars, focused on the enjoyment of our kids.
